 STUDENT ORGANISATIONS

Being a student of John Paul II University in Biala Podlaska does not only mean studying. Even if you have loads of material to cover and studying for tests and exams consumes most of your time, we do believe that extra-academic activities may benefit you in a variety of ways.  Everyone can find something for themselves in order to pursue their interests and develop their talents.

INTERNATIONAL CLUB

International Club, situated on the ground floor of the Student Residence Hall No. 1, was created during the first Covid-19 lockdown in the summer semester of the 2019/2020 academic year. It was mainly a group of international students, i.e. from Belarus or Ukraine, who were forced to stay in the Student Residence Halls, for whom the possibility of returning home due to the distance or time needed to pack and organize the return, was largerely hindered, if not prevented at all, due to the sudden lockdown. This group also included Erasmus exchange students undertaking their mobilities at our University. At that time, there were 12 of such students: 9 people from Turkey, and 3 people from the Erasmus+ project with Partner Countries from the University of Leo Tolstoy from Tula, Russia, from the Brest State University named after A. Pushkin in Belarus and the Medical University of Ternopil in Ukraine. The situation related to the outbreak of the pandemic, the sudden lockdown and remote work was a new situation for everyone. The quarantine that international students had to spend at the Student Residence Hall was extremely difficult for them. Students going on Erasmus mobility hope for an unforgettable experience and for the possibility of unlimited travel, in the summer semester of the 2019/2020 academic year, the international students had to confront their perceptions and dreams with a totally different reality, and totally new concepts of social distancing and forced lockdowns. Trying to take care of them in the best possible way we could during this difficult time and to make their leisure time more pleasant and allow them to mentally rest from the overwhelming subject of the pandemic, we created the International Club - a place where students from abroad could integrate with each other in friendly conditions as well as get to know Polish students. Thanks to the equipment that the International Club is equipped with, you can organize language and cultural workshops there to get acquainted with the students culture, customs, knowledge and learn something from each other and enrich with some new experiences, organize movie nights, Play Station games tournament, board games tournament and besides, it is a place where, after a hard day of classes, students staying in the Student Residence Hall can simply come, relax, play board games, Play Station, move to virtual reality thanks to VR glasses or just be together. The International Club was established during the lockdown as a place of ad hoc support for international students and to make the time they spent together in the atmosphere of social distancing more attractive. In recent months, the International Club has also been a place eagerly used by children of refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine staying temporarily in the Student Residence Hall. We hope that the coming months will allow us to use the full potential of the International Club so that it becomes a permanent place in the awareness of Polish and international students of our University as a place of integration and cooperation of the academic community.

If you want to organize an integrating event, if you want to teach your language to other students and want to organize a language workshop, or if you simply want to organize a board game night or a movie marathon night with fellow students and need some premises for this purpose, please contact us at welcome@akademiabialska.pl.
